There were 11 in my class for “Landscapes” and everyone worked very had all day. We had of cour
se to stop for “more food” ! There were great crowds and long queues for the
Irish Exhibition We visited more shops with thousands of fabrics, millions of buttons and miles of trimmings. It’s hard to restrain ourselves with the vast array and choice of fabrics. The thread shops are bewildering, but suddenly there’s a glimpse of “home” on a sign to remind us of our suitcase allowance!
Today I
was collected by some of my postcard friends to go on a trip. Nuala and Mary came along and we visited the Donnelly Museu
m in Lucan. There was an antique quilt exihibiton in progress. Some really gorgeous quilts. There was a lady demonstrating how to make woollen rag rungs. A visitor had brought in a cotton rag rug partly finished and wanted to know how she could complete it. The museum staff didn’t know how ..... but ....I had a look and quickly worked out how it was done. The visitor was thrilled and I am inspired to make a similar one when I get
home. I told the lady in the museum that my granny was Nora Donnelly. She was amazed as they too had a Nora in their family. I have promised to send a photo of my granny. We then visited Lens Mill Shop - fabrics of every kin
d and sheers (my favourites) of every hue. I picked up a few bits .....! Just got back into town for a special visit to Ailsa Craig Museum to see their collection of antique
quilts. Wow! All signature quilts from this area. After dinner tonight I visited the house where Vena and Bernadette are staying and guess what? Paula also had a collection of antique quilts and clothes. She opened her huge fabric boxes and told us to help ourselves ... more suitcase weight worries.
