Irish Patchwork Society - AGM 2015
Organised by the Western Brach IPS.
Venue: Salthill Hotel, Promenade, Galway
IPS AGM 2015 - Members Challenge - All IPS members are invited to enter the challenge and to have the opportunity to win the "James Lawlor Trophy". The 2015 AGM challenge is a "House Block". It must be on a white background and 12" quilt block. Any patchwork/quilting technique can be used. It must be edge finished with a "Zig-zag" finish. All the blocks will be joined together by members of the IPS Western Branch after the AGM to make a quilt for a charitable cause. More details on the IPS Facebook page.
Guest Speaker: Zsofia Atkins (from the Hungarian art quilt group Modern Movement). Zsofia will give a talk and slide presentation about the Hungarian Modern Movement. She will also be bringing the most recent exhibition of the Hungarian Modern Group.
The Hungarian art quilt group Modern Movement was established by ten like-minded artists in 2006 and membership gradually rose to eighteen. The aim of the group was to develop both their technical and art skills. At the beginning they tried to achieve this via "wet studio” sessions and analysis of contemporary art works. Now they have on going discussions about their own courses of creative processes.
Members all have their own style and all work individually. Through the conversations they can all experience how the others are struggling with their creative process, striving for excellence in both technical and compositional ways, and trying to clear their expression. Works in progress are regularly critiqued at monthly meetings, with members regularly exhibiting their works individually as well as a group, many having successfully participated in international juried exhibitions.
Fabric Shops: To be confirmed.
More details: irishpatchworksociety.blogspot.ie and in the Spring 2015 IPS Newsletter (Issue 130).

If it’s September, it means IPS branches around the country are getting back into action.
The National AGM takes place in the Salthill Hotel on Saturday October 17th, with a full day workshop in the same venue on Sunday October 18th.
Details of the events were included in the last IPS Newsletter and members attending were asked to reply with the appropriate fee by September 11th. So far there have been only 8 replies for the workshop and 4 bookings for the AGM.
Please find attached the AGM and Workshop Booking form with a new application date of September 30th. We must have numbers by then so that the hotel will be able to arrange lunch etc. for the Saturday.
I havealso attached a copy of the AGM Challenge.
Please circulate both documents to members by email and/or print up copies for them to complete at your first meeting.
Time is moving on and it would help us greatly in organising the event if we had bookings in sooner rather than later.
Thank you for your help, looking forward to seeing you in Galway in October.
